Extremist Group "The Halvening" Threatens Execution of Bitcoin Miners After Halving Estimate Changes
The Bugle has received a video recording from an extremist Bitcoin group calling themselves “The Halvening” (we think this is a pun on the compliant term common across the industry “the halving”). In the video a figure was seen who matches the appearance of one Charlie Spears, independent mining operator and formerly at Luxor Technology.
He was seen being held at knife point in an undisclosed desert location. The spokesmen for The Halvening spoke at length during the initial part of the video about Bitcoin being in balance. Numerous mentions were made of the difficulty adjustment, and how important it was for it to exist to facilitate the network remaining in balance with the intended ten minute block interval defined by its creator Satoshi Nakamoto.
After a period the man became enraged, screaming incoherently about disruptions to the balance that were not supposed to occur. A statement in between these almost incoherent rants was directed at Luxor Technology.
“If Luxor Technology does not reduce its operational hashrate by at least 5% before midnight EST tonight, Charlie will be summarily executed on video. This is non-negotiable.”
The spokesmen went on to say that if the network hashrate was not reduced enough to return to the intended balance of block production ensuring the “halvening” occurred on its intended date of April, 20th 2024 other miners would be targeted.
His last comments stated that “Steve Barbour and his extremely flamboyant mustache are next.”
Neither Charlie’s family nor Luxor Technology responded to requests for comment.
