Judge Recuses Himself From Swan Case After Selfie Of Him At Pacific Bitcoin Surfaces
LOS ANGELES, CA — A federal district court judge on Wednesday recused himself from hearing a complaint by Swan Bitcoin against a group of former employees and consultants, alleging they “hatched and executed a ‘rain and hellfire’ plan” to "steal" its lucrative bitcoin mining business after selfies of him with Natalie Brunell at Swan's Pacific Bitcoin conference surfaced.
The judge said it was "far from certain that an objective observer would reasonably question my impartiality." But he added that "out of an abundance of caution," he would recuse himself from participating in the case.
As part of his official statement recusing himself from the case the judge disclosed that he was orange pilled by listening to Cafe Bitcoin on X (Formerly Twitter) Spaces. Cafe Bitcoin was a daily X Space operated by Swan and regularly featuring prominent Swan influencers. He also disclosed that he had attended at least one of Swan's regular Swan Salons in Malibu and had a personal relationship with an individual with close ties to Swan named Dom Bei. Bei and the judge play pickle ball once a month in Santa Monica.
While there is no suspicion of impropriety since district court cases are assigned randomly to judges, the judge did tell The Bugle it might be difficult to find a judge in Los Angeles who hasn't been orange pilled by Swan or who hasn't attended the Swan Pacific Bitcoin conference. "A lot of us are big fans of Swan. We love their podcasts and several of us converted our Roth IRAs over to Swan. Cory saved us from shitcoins in 2022. It should be noted."
The Bugle will continue to cover developments in the Swan lawsuit case.
